Psychotherapy with Adults

WELCOME
Psychotherapy is a unique opportunity to reflect on and develop through one's difficulties. In this confidential and individualized process, we turn our attention to emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. With my attentive listening and non-judgmental observations and the client’s desire and commitment to change, developments emerge over time. These can include:
-
emotion tolerance
-
self-acceptance
-
relational self-awareness
-
sustained behavior change
-
insight into the legacy of one's history
I broadly orient my work in developmental psychology-- specifically attachment science and psychodynamic theory--as well as humanistic and relational psychology. When dialectical behavioral or cognitive behavioral frameworks could be of use, I think through those as well. Some foundational assumptions in my work are:

-
acceptance of the present and confidence in change
-
to be an individual is to be in relationship
-
human experience is both unique and universal
-
opportunities for development occur across the lifespan
-
the unconscious seeks consciousness

BIOGRAPHY
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing psychotherapy with adults in New Haven, Connecticut. I worked for about ten years at the student mental health center at Yale University, and prior to that I worked in inpatient, partial hospitalization, and community mental health settings.
Before pursuing a master's degree in social work, I earned a bachelor's degree in an interdisciplinary humanities program. My decision to become a clinical social worker and practice as a psychotherapist emerged while working at a nutrition services organization for folks living with HIV and AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In addition to practicing psychotherapy, I also enjoy parenting, reading literature, volunteering in my community, attending sporting and arts events, and cultivating a green thumb.
